Barbara Schreiner is on the WLE Steering Committee. She is also the Executive Director of the Pegasys Institute, Board Chair of the Water Research Commission (WRC) and a board member of the International Water Management Institute (IWMI).
Brent Swallow is Professor of Agricultural and Environmental Economics at the University of Alberta, Canada. He is a member of the WLE Steering Committee and specializes in payment for ecosystems services.
Dr. Joan Cuka Kagwanja is the Chief of the Land Policy Initiative, an initiative of the African Union Commission (AUC), Economic Commission (ECA) and the African Development Bank (AfDB). She is a member of the WLE Steering Committee.
Johan Rockström is a professor in environmental science with emphasis on water resources and global sustainability at Stockholm University and the executive director of Stockholm Resilience Centre. He serves as the chair of WLE’s steering committee.
Olcay Ünver is responsible for managing water, land and soil-related activities and programs at FAO, mainstreaming water across the various sectors and disciplines, and cooperating with partners and stakeholders within and outside the UN system. He is a member of the WLE Steering Committee.
Liza Debevec is the Interim Gender Youth and Inclusivity coordinator. She’s a social anthropologist that also contributes to IWMI’s Research group on Gender and Governance and coordinates MARIS Network. She has been working in Sub Saharan Africa since 2000 and is currently based in IWMI’s East Africa and Nile Basin office.
Sharon Perera is the Program Assistant for WLE. Prior to joining WLE, Sharon was Executive Officer to the Deputy Director General of the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and the Personal Assistant of the Director of the Challenge Program on Water and Food (CPWF).
Dr. Anthony Whitbread leads the research program Resilient Dryland Systems for the International Crops Research Institute of the Semi-arid Tropics. He is co-leaders of WLE's research theme on Sustainable Land and Water Solutions.
Claudia Ringler is deputy division director of the Environment and Production Technology Division at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). She co-leads WLE's research theme on Managing Resource Variability and Competing Use.
Jennie Barron is the co-leader of the Land and Water Solutions research theme for WLE and is a professor in the Deptartment of Soil Science and Environment at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Uppsala, Sweden.
Matthew McCartney co-leads the WLE Research Theme on Variability, Risk, and Competing Uses and is Research Group Leader for Water Futures at the International Water Management Institute (IWMI). He specializes in water resources, wetland and hydro-ecological studies.
