Yusuf Ali, WLE Focal Regional Research Manager for the Ganges

Md. Yusuf Ali is the WLE focal region research manager for the Ganges. Yusuf worked for the Farming System Division (OFRD) of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute from 1983 to 2009. As principle scientist of OFRD, he supervised and executed research, development and technology transfer activities. He has worked as a visiting scientist for CIMMYT, Mexico and as a short-term consultant for the Australian Center for International Agricultural Research and the International Food Policy Research Institute. Prior to joining WLE, Yusuf worked as a cropping systems agronomist for CIMMYT and promoted conservation agriculture, axial flow pumps for surface water irrigation and intensification of rice-fallow systems of south-central Bangladesh under the EU-funded Agriculture and Nutrition Extension Project.
He holds a PhD in Agronomy from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, and Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Agriculture from Bangladesh Agricultural University.
